Our Shared Lives carers

Shared Lives carers are ordinary people from the local community who choose to become Shared Lives carers. Find out a little about three of our Shared Lives carers.

Meet Ouma

Ouma was born in Mauritius but lives in the seaside town of Herne Bay with one of her daughters and a gentleman who she supports through Shared Lives. She can provide day support and short breaks.

Ouma has over 20 years’ experience supporting people with learning disabilities.

She enjoys spending time with her family, watching sports, listening to music, gardening, doing arts and crafts, reading and going shopping.

Meet Keisha

Keisha is a trained massage therapist and has plenty of experience working with people with learning disabilities.

She describes herself as a ‘born carer’ and someone who is committed to "taking responsibility for the welfare of another to ensure that they have a good life". Keisha can offer day support, respite and long-term care through Shared Lives.

She lives with her two young sons and loves spending time with her family and friends, watching movies, cooking and playing games.

“Giving somebody an environment where they feel like they can be themselves, be happy and be loved, even if it’s for a day, that’s a feeling that I can’t really describe.”

Meet Taymar

Taymar was born and raised in Islington and currently lives with her husband and two daughters.

Taymar has been a Shared Lives carer since 2008 and really enjoys supporting others to be independent around the home and out in the community. Taymar can provide day support through Shared Lives.

Taymar is also a beauty and massage therapist, she sometimes works from home or visits people in their houses.

Taymar’s hobbies include DIY, keeping fit, socialising with friends and spending time with her family.

“Shared Lives is a holistic approach to care. It takes in all aspects of somebody; it’s everything that you would get from living in a family.”
