Working with children and young people

We offer training, information and support for professionals working with children already and residents who are thinking of a career in this field.

Becoming a childminder

Childminders are registered to provide childcare in their own home. If you’re interested in becoming a childminder, contact the Family Information Service by calling 020 7527 5959 or email fis@islington.gov.uk.

Working as a nanny

Nannies provide 'home childcare' which takes place in a child's home. They are employed by parents, and unlike childminders, nannies do not have to be registered with Ofsted. Nannies can choose to register with Ofsted because parents may be able to get help with the cost of childcare if they use registered childcare.

Find out more about how to register with Ofsted.

Setting up a nursery

If you’re thinking of setting up a nursery in Islington, the Childcare Sufficiency Assessment shows the demand for different types of childcare across the borough.

For further information on setting up a nursery, please see our guidance or contact the Family Information Service by calling 020 7527 5959 or email fis@islington.gov.uk.

Training support and resources

We offer training, advice and guidance on developing good quality early years practice.
