Auction Room Competitive Bidding Registration

Any premises used for auctions require registration.  Auctions are also referred to as "competitive bidding" and are regulated by Part VI Greater London Council (General Powers) Act 1984

You will need to apply for registration to sell goods by competitive bidding from the following types of premises:

  • halls, rooms, stalls, marquees, vehicles;
  • sites which are used or hire out for "one day sales"; and
  • any premises or land where goods are sold by auction

The registration is valid indefinitely to the owner.  If ownership changes hands, then a new registration will have to be applied for.

Consumer complaint

We would always advise that in the event of a complaint the first contact is made with the trader by you - preferably in the form a letter (with proof of delivery). If that has not worked, if you are located in the UK, Citizens Advice consumer service will give you advice. From outside the UK contact the UK European Consumer Centre.
