Housing evidence and statistics

Building more council housing and supporting private renters is a top priority for the Council in order to make Islington a fairer place to live and work. Housing can play a major role in reducing poverty and increasing prosperity, widening people's horizons to ultimately improve their lives and opportunities.

The housing department in Islington Council covers a wide range of services and areas of strategic responsibility. These include:

  • Direct management of council homes
  • Housing advice services to prevent homelessness as well as assisting people who have lost their homes
  • Advice for tenants living in the private rented sector
  • Working with registered providers (housing associations) to enable the building of new affordable housing and good housing managementEncouraging greater resident participation in housing services
  • Alongside the housing department, a number of other services in Islington deliver interventions to improve housing conditions including SHINE and Residential Environmental Health.
