Housing evidence and statistics

Building more council housing and supporting private renters is a top priority for the Council in order to make Islington a fairer place to live and work. Housing can play a major role in reducing poverty and increasing prosperity, widening people's horizons to ultimately improve their lives and opportunities.

Homes and Neighbourhoods covers a wide range of services and areas of strategic responsibility. These include:

  • directly manage council homes
  • provide housing advice services to prevent homelessness as well as assisting people who have lost their homes
  • support rough sleepers
  • provide advice for tenants living in the private rented sector and work with landlords to improve standards
  • work with registered providers (housing associations) to enable the building of new affordable housing and good housing management
  • encourage greater resident participation in improvement to housing services
  • work with partner organisations and commissioned services to deliver interventions and improve housing conditions
