We are deeply saddened by the death of our longest reigning monarch, Queen Elizabeth II.

Many in Islington will share in this sadness and will want to reflect on her years of public service.

A statement from The Mayor of Islington  

The Mayor of Islington, Cllr Marian Spall made a statement, on behalf of the borough of Islington, expressing great sadness at the death of The Queen, and extending condolences to her family, friends and loved ones. Read the Mayor's statement on our news site.

Books of Condolence 

Islington's Books of Condolence have now closed, but you can still sign the National Book of Condolence online, which will be kept by the Royal Household. 

Proclamation of the King  

King Charles III has succeeded to the throne and was proclaimed at the Accession Council at 10am on Saturday, 10 September. A local proclamation event was held on Sunday 11 September outside Islington Town Hall and the public were welcomed to attend.

National Moment of Reflection 

At 8pm on Sunday (18 September), a Moment of Reflection was observed across the UK in memory of The Queen, and was marked by a one-minute silence. There was a short even held outside Islington Town Hall, which was open to all to attend. 

The Queen’s funeral  

Her Majesty the Queen’s state funeral took place at Westminster Abbey on Monday 19 September, which was marked by a bank holiday. For more information please visit GOV.UK
